Where is Dimensions Academy located?
The elementary classrooms (4-5) will be at Ridgeview Elementary School and Oak Grove Elementary School and the middle school classrooms (6-8) are at Oak Grove Middle School and Olson Middle School.
What are the school hours?
Ridgeview: 9:10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Oak Grove: 9:00 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.
Middle School Programs
7:55 a.m. - 2:37 p.m.
What school will my child attend?
Students are placed in an elementary or middle school based on their home address attendance area. Use our school locator if you are uncertain.
Elementary students who live in the Jefferson High School area will attend Ridgeview Elementary and those living in the Kennedy High School attendance area will attend Oak Grove Elementary.
Middle school students will attend the middle school designated by their attendance area. Valley View Middle School students are transported free of charge to the DA program at Oak Grove Middle School.
Is transportation provided?
If the child is a resident of the Bloomington Public Schools, free transportation is provided, unless a family lives in the "walk area" of the school, as designated by Bloomington's Transportation Department. Families living outside of the district must provide their own transportation.
DA students who reside in the Valley View Middle School attendance area will be shuttled to Oak Grove Middle School. At the end of the day, these students are shuttled back to Valley View Middle School. The shuttle bus picks the students up approximately 10 minutes before the end of the school day, meaning they are released from their last class 10 minutes early.
Is there a cost to attend Dimensions Academy?
There is no cost for this program. Students living outside of the Bloomington School District qualify for open-enrollment transfers at no cost. However, parents are responsible for transportation.
How are students selected for Dimensions Academy?
Students are selected based on the placement criteria.
This program is not for all students; therefore, careful consideration will be used as to whether this program fits each student's needs.
Do students need an IQ test?
For students not currently enrolled in the BPS district, an IQ or other ability measure is required to qualify for Dimensions Academy. IQ assessments must be administered by a licensed psychologist. Bloomington Public School students do not need an IQ measure.
District applicants will be given a CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test). Additional data such as MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) scores will be considered for in-district applicants as well.
Does my child need a teacher recommendation?
Yes. All students need a teacher or other educational expert to complete the DA Teacher Recommendation Form found on the DA/Elements Application page
If my child is not admitted to Dimensions Academy, will he/she still get a good education?
Yes. Bloomington Public Schools prides itself on assuring that each of our learners will develop the knowledge, skills, and ethics necessary to achieve educational excellence and thrive in a rapidly changing world. Differentiation of curriculum and instruction ensures that gifted and talented students' needs are met. Dimensions Academy is not for students whose academic needs are being met within a differentiated regular classroom.
10. When are parents notified whether their child is accepted to attend Dimensions Academy?
Applicants will be notified of placement decisions within six weeks of the application deadline.
