PAUSE (Placing Accountability Upon a Student's Education) is a program designed as an alternative to out-of-school suspension. Students are referred to PAUSE because their behaviors have led them to be suspended from school, often after numerous school interventions have been attempted. PAUSE provides an environment that is conducive to holding students accountable for their actions as well as accepting personal responsibility for their behaviors. Students are also taught alternative behaviors and choices for the future thereby decreasing the likelihood of future offenses. Students at PAUSE are encouraged and supported in their attempts to repair harm to victims and the school community through mediation and restitution.
