Volunteer Trainings
We offer all our academic volunteers the opportunity to receive additional training which provides them with resources and tools to assist Bloomington students.
Literacy Training
The Minnesota Literacy Council provides The ABC's of Reading for Children's Tutors for Bloomington volunteers. The ABC's of Reading is a two-hour, hands-on workshop that prepares adults to tutor children in reading. The training is appropriate for classroom volunteers and tutors who work in after-school programs.
This workshop gives you practical ideas to use with students. This training shares ideas on lesson planning, reading to children, reading with children, decoding strategies and writing activities.
Math Training
Bloomington school staff present an Everyday Math Training for Bloomington volunteers. This training focuses on the curriculum used in district classrooms. The two-hour training prepares tutors to assist students with current math strategies. This workshop offers explanations and practice with number and numeration, operations and computation, data and chance, measurement and reference frames, geometry, patterns, functions and algebra.
